Free Walking Tours – also called tip-based tours – are a type of group tour designed specifically for solo and independent travelers. Simply put, Free Tours are daily tours with a set tour time for which guests are invited to make a reservation and attend the tour. What makes “Free Tours” distinctive is that participants can “pay what you want.” We understand that independent travelers may find it challenging to participate in traditionally priced private tours. Private tours are usually charged on a tiered scale according to number of participants or by hour, which means an individual could easily pay between 60 – 150 Euro (or more) for a traditional walking tour which is priced for larger, organized groups of travelers. These same costs may not be feasible for independent or solo travelers.
Free Walking Tours are a means of bringing a group of travelers together to participate in a tour using a shared economic model. This model enables us to provide tours and for independent travelers to participate in them for a reasonable cost. As a participant, you are “free” to pay what you feel your experience walking with us is worth and what you can afford. An average individual donation can vary, but for a memorable and engaging local tour experience, the “choose your own” price point offers an affordable option for travelers.
The Sheva Walking Tours Team aims to provide you a quality experience, but one that is accessible to all travelers. Please be respectful and keep in mind that your donations or tips are our guides’ living wage. Sheva Walking Tours and Travel is a registered, tax paying tour company comprised of certified, trained guides. The Sheva Walking Tours Team cares deeply about providing you a quality tour experience; we are passionate about the knowledge we share and the community we represent. The only way we can continue to provide Free Tours is if our guests contribute to the shared service we provide.
Remember, Free Tours are designed for solo or independent travelers (small groups). If you are traveling with a group of 7 or more people or have needs specific to your group, please schedule a private group tour here.
Sheva’s Free Walking Tours of Mostar
When Sheva Walking Tours was launched in 2018, we had one Free Walking Tour – Sheva’s Original Free Walking Tour of Mostar: Explore our Past, Understand our Present. The original tour is an all-in-one tour that packs Mostar’s history into one 2.5-hour walking tour experience which begins with the development of Old Town and concludes with the Mostar of today!
Six years later, we offer three distinct Free Walking Tours from which you can choose! In addition to Sheva’s Original Free Walking Tour of Mostar, we offer the Heart of Mostar Free Walking Tour and The Making of Modern Mostar Free Walking Tour. These 2-hour tours break Mostar’s long and captivating history into two parts. The Heart of Mostar focuses on Mostar’s earliest history, with special attention to the traditions and culture rooted in Mostar’s historic center and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Making of Modern Mostar takes off where the Heart of Mostar concludes; moving outside of the cobblestone paths, your guide will narrate the more recent history of the last 150 years and how this period has shaped the city’s growth, development, and socio-political context.

Did you know? Online booking platforms charge us about €2 – €3 per person in commission. To avoid those heavy costs, we created our own booking system. We only charge a €2 fee per booking (not per person) — keeping our tours fair, sustainable, and community-based. This enables us to better serve you, our guests!
